Cairngorm Funicular Railway Construction
A series of shots of the funicular under construction, around the end of summer 2001. This was an interesting construction site, as access to the mountain was not really restricted, so it was possible to get up close to the track just as a casual visitor.

The middle passing point on the track is above the roof of the jeep in the car park. With Cairngorm summit directly above.

Looking down from the midpoint, with loch Morlich in the background.

Looking up toards the summit station. It is just possible to see the top tower crane pylons on the skyline, where the track disappears over the top of the hill (and into a tunnel for the last section).

Looking down the track to the passing point in the middle.

The cable crane used to lift the materials up the mountain. It is anchored back to the hilside in the background.

Underside of track, with support pier. Lower station roof just behind.

The precast track base sections are placed, then in-situ concrete placed to fill the gap.

The concrete track base sections are held in place by anchor blocks at the lower end, and free to expand at the upper end.
