Leftfield - A Final Hit
Seeing an advert for Leftfield’s greatest hits album made me go back and listen to their first two albums, the phenomenal debut album “Leftism” and the not-quite-so-good-but-still-great-follow-up “Rhythm and Stealth”.
Leftism is a fantastic album, but, to me anyway, has no real stand out tracks. I would rate every track on the album 8 or 9 out of 10, but none 10. The overall quality and coherency of the album is fantastic. Rhythm and Stealth is a different kettle of fish, with Phat Planet and Afrika Shox being the obvious memorable tracks, but the overall quality of the album didn’t quite match the debut, which was a very tough act to follow. Both albums are still great now, and I don’t think I will tire of listening to them. They certainly aren’t albums I will skip over if they show up in the random mix in iTunes.
What I want to know is whether it is worth buying “A Final Hit”. There are 3 tracks I haven’t heard, and I don’t know if the track mixes on this album are the same as the original albums, if they are, then it is not really worth buying. Unfortunately the Leftfield website is not much help, I suppose I will just have to look for it in the shops.
