MPs to get ‘veto’ over new Trident
As reported on the BBC News website, MPs(Members of Parliament) are to get an opportunity to veto the decision to waste £20bn plus on the hypocritical proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Blair and his cronies in the so called “opposition” think they have enough support to easily win, so start lobbying your MP now to get as many NO votes as possible. A useful online tool for this is Write to Them . com.
By design, nuclear weapons are targeted against innocent civilians and not the armed forces of the enemy. They will do little, if anything at all to protect us against “rouge states” and “terrorists” (or whatever the expression of the day is for the hyped up threat used to keep us voting for “protection”). Quite how you aim a nuclear warhead, with an annihilation range of several kilometres, and a fallout range much greater than this, at individuals is beyond me—and the laws of thermodynamics for that matter.
As the “CND factsheet”:www.cnduk.org/pages/Q&A.pdf puts it:
If Britain shows the world, by replacing Trident, that we think our security depends on us having nuclear weapons into the far future, then other countries without them will want them as well. So the dangers of accidents or crises increase.
As the current standoff with Iran shows, why should they give up their search for nuclear power (with the aside of nuclear weapons technology) when other countries such as the UK and the USA are actively seeking not only to build more nuclear power stations, but also to replace and upgrade our nuclear weapons arsenal.
Our country needs to lead by example; not the current “_do as I say, not as I do_” stance on foreign policy.
As a footnote: Scotland’s for Peace are organising the “_Long Walk for Peace_”, from Faslane (the home of the UK’s current WMD carrying submarines) to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, to try and persuade our MSPs that the general public do not support the UK’s violation of the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. Find out more on the Scotland’s for Peace website.

I tried sending you a message on your “Contact Me” page, but got a 404 error on sending it and am not sure it got through (Sorry, the page “http://www.drnoble.co.uk/contact/†could not be found on this server. (HTTP Error 404))
In my message I reported that your Quicktags improvement is not showing button background colors in WordPress 2.0.3 and asked if you have addressed this.
And I agree that all of the nuclear powers should be reducing their numbers of thermonuclear weapons and should be working to improve the security of their fissionable materials.
