Now the Green Blade Riseth (Hawthorn)

NOW THE GREEN BLADE RISETH uses images drawn from the Hawthorn: flowers, leaves and thorny twigs. The fifth Celtic lunar month ran from mid- May until June when the Hawthorn, or May, is in bloom. The scent of the flower is said to have a strong scent of female sexuality; but the month of May was, in ancient times, one of enforced chastity.
